Hey everyone, welcome to this edition of the Feel Better Letter.
This is Matt.
And so today, I want to talk about something I actually wrote about yesterday in an email that I sent out, and it's really how fear almost creates, like, a spell over you, right?
It's like a good way to think about it.
It's not, like, actually what's happening.
But, you know, really understanding that it creates such a powerful distortion that what appears through that lens of fear looks as real as anything you've ever seen.
And this is one of the, you know, so this is where, like, why having, like, someone else in your life is so important, because one of the things that I hear all the time is, like, "It looks real. This feels and looks real to me."
And it's like, yes, it does.
It does.
And I'm not denying that.
But what you're unable to determine while you're in the state of that appearance is everything going on that is causing that.
So when you're in this state of fear, right?
And it's a state of consciousness, right?
And the state of consciousness of fear is really not necessarily a thing itself as much as it's the absence, right, or the blocking of the love and peace that's already there.
You know, even in the Bible, it says, you know, "perfect love casts out all fear," right?
Fear and love are opposing energy forces, but not in the way that they have equal power, in the way that darkness and light are opposites.
Light is the only operant power.
Fear, right, is its own state.
And when you're in that state, things appear a certain way. You're in this lens of fear, you hijack your nervous system, all your bodily functions change, you become hyper-aware, and literally things appear a certain way.
Whatever that is, oftentimes through the mind's projection.
So the mind projects the fear onto a certain thing, a certain topic, a certain person, a certain group.
And when it projects the fear, right, or the fear is projected through the mind, I should say, it actually looks that way.
This is why people will, you know, tell me, like, you know, or, you know, people during COVID was a good example, right?
We're buying hundreds of rolls of toilet paper and convinced internally that it was a good idea.
Now, most of us can actually look at our fear and, you know, look back at times where we did things that seemed perfectly rational and normal, and that it was, like, a logical thing to do, and it looked that way at the time when we were lost in fear, and we can look back and see how it wasn't at all.
You know, like, and that's a very important thing because if you can do that with the past, you can begin to bring that into the present.
Okay, like, I know it appears this way.
I know my mind's saying to do this.
I know it's saying to do this compulsion for the 100th time.
And, you know, it appeared that way in the past and it wasn't right.
And, you know, it's probably not right now.
And, you know, I think of, like, a good movie, Lord of the Rings, right?
When, uh, the one king is under that, like, spell of the wizard or whatever, he doesn't know he's under a spell.
And this is the same thing.
It's like, we aren't generally conscious when we're in a state of fear. We actually believe we're being logical.
And that is the trap itself.
Because it's like, how can you be under a spell, not know you're under the spell, and get out of the spell?
This is why doing this on your own is so ill-advised, right?
Like, yes, you have to do the work, but having external people in your life to be able to question, to be able to gently, you know, kind of talk about the direction you're going and how things are perceived and all of this stuff is so important, you know?
Um, because fear looks and appears real.
And just because it looks and appears and feels real doesn't give it any more reality or any more validity.
And that's one of the most challenging parts about this.
And because you can actually look at other people's fears and openly, you know, openly say, "Well, yeah, that's just not real."
It doesn't. I know it may look that way to that person, but it's not real.
One of the benefits of TBC, one of the greatest benefits that people often don't realize until they've come through it, is being able to be in a group of people, anonymously, listen to them talk about their fears, because it helps you develop the perspective of fear that you need to bring against your own.
Because in every group I've ever run, most people will listen to someone that's talking about a certain fear and, you know, you know, it's like, "Oh, okay, that's not fear. That's not really what's going on."
But when they start talking, "No, this is real. My fear is real."
Right?
When none of it's real.
So, when fear is hijacking you, you know, it's important to understand that that's really what's happening.
It looks, appears, and feels like it's real, and it's not.
And being able to transcend that is the gap that you have to be able to walk in order to truly transcend fear.
And like I said, that gap is much easier to walk with objective people in your life.
And so, um, yeah, I hope this was helpful.
If you're interested in working together in TBC, fill out an application.
Right now, we have just extended everything to have groups Monday through Friday.
So we have plenty of live support.
And with that, wishing you all a great day, and I'll talk to you soon.
