This Week in The Feel Better Letter 👇

✅ Fear promises that if you solve, analyze, or control the problem now, you'll have a better tomorrow—but the price it asks you to pay is today.
âś… The future fear keeps warning you about is largely an illusion; tomorrow never actually arrives because life is always happening in the present moment.
âś… The more you ruminate, seek reassurance, fight thoughts, or try to control your experience, the more you're sacrificing your presence and engagement with your actual life.
âś… Recovery means learning to experience fear as a present internal experience rather than treating it like a futuristic threat that needs to be solved.
âś… New episode: How to Actually Let Go of Fear, Guilt & Anger (Not Fake It)

Matt's Message of the Week

Fear’s Promise for a Better Tomorrow

Fear makes a deal with you.

It tells you that if you just figure this out...

If you ruminate a little longer...

If you research, analyze, or perform the compulsion...

Then tomorrow will be better.

But there's a catch.

Fear asks you to sacrifice today in exchange for a tomorrow that never actually comes.

Think about the old “Free Beer Tomorrow” sign.

You come back the next day expecting your free beer, only to be told, “That's tomorrow.”

And that's the trap.

Fear keeps promising safety, certainty, and control somewhere in the future.

But all life ever gives you is now.

And the more you sacrifice today trying to create a better tomorrow, the more of your actual life you miss.

You miss time with the people you love.

You miss what you're doing right in front of you.

You miss the opportunity to fully show up for your own life.

And eventually, you realize that fear never actually delivers on its promise.

You solve one problem, and it gives you another.

You answer one question, and it creates another.

You get reassurance, and then you need it again.

That's because the real problem isn't the future threat.

It's the state of fear you're experiencing right now.

So the work isn't to figure out how to guarantee that tomorrow will be okay.

The work is learning how to become non-resistant to what you're experiencing in this moment.

To allow the fear instead of fighting it.

To shift your state from fear toward trust, acceptance, peace, and love.

That's where transformation happens.

Not tomorrow.

Now.

Helpful Episodes for the Week

How to Actually Let Go of Fear, Guilt & Anger (Not Fake It)
Most of us believe our lower emotions are doing us a favor. Guilt keeps us "good." Anger keeps us "safe" from getting hurt again. Fear keeps us "prepared" for whatever's coming. In this episode, Matt breaks down why that belief is the exact thing keeping you stuck, and why the emotion you're using to protect yourself is the very suffering you're trying to avoid.

Is Your OCD Diagnosis Helping or Hurting You?
In this episode, Matt shares his own story of first hearing the word "OCD" and traces the line between a label that opens up new possibility and a label that turns into a trap. He explains why fixing the "theme" your fear latches onto was never the real work, and what it actually means to move beyond diagnosis into a deeper level of healing.

How to Feel Fear Without Believing It
In this episode Matt breaks down why you cannot solve a problem of the mind by using the mind, no matter how much you research, rationalize, or ruminate. Fear is a state. It's a field that runs through your nervous system, and your mind's only job in that moment is to try to explain why it's happening.

This Week’s Reminder

Fear will always promise you a better tomorrow.

But the bill is paid today.

You don't have to solve the future.

Learn to meet this moment with trust instead of fear.

Because this moment is where your life is actually happening.

To your freedom and success,

Matt
