This Week in The Feel Better Letter 👇

✅ Fear doesn't just create uncomfortable feelings—it hijacks the mind and makes it harder to accurately understand what you're experiencing or how to move through it.
âś… When you're in fear, the mind projects a cause onto your experience, convincing you that this thought, this situation, or this possibility is what's creating the fear.
âś… Fear can make you mistake thinking about recovery for actually recovering, while also distorting your ability to recognize the progress you're making.
✅ Recovery isn't about treating fear like a disease you need to eliminate—it's about recovering your natural connection to peace and learning to transcend the states that block it.
âś… New episode: OCD Themes Explained: Why It's All One Fear Loop

Matt's Message of the Week

"Fear Defeats More People Than Any One Thing"

Fear doesn't just make you afraid. It changes the way you see everything.

When you're in a state of fear, the mind gets hijacked.

It starts looking for a reason.

Why am I feeling this?

What if this happens?

What do I need to figure out?

And then you follow those thoughts, believing that solving them will finally get you out of fear.

But the very mind you're using to escape the fear is being influenced by the fear itself.

That's the trap.

Fear creates a lens through which you see the world.

It projects the cause of your fear onto ideas, situations, thoughts, and possibilities.

And before you know it, you're no longer actually living your life.

You're sitting with people you love, but you're somewhere else in your mind.

You're trying to figure things out.

You're tracking whether you're getting better.

You're analyzing your progress.

You're trying to determine whether you've finally reached peace.

And fear can even distort your ability to recognize when you're making progress.

It can tell you you're doing great because someone else is worse.

Or it can immediately discredit the progress you've made and tell you that you've gotten nowhere.

So recovery isn't about using the mind to defeat fear.

It's about learning to recognize fear as a state.

And then learning to confront, transcend, and release that state.

Because what you're really recovering isn't from a disease.

You're recovering your natural essence.

You're recovering your peace.

You're taking back what was always yours.

How to Actually Let Go of Fear, Guilt & Anger (Not Fake It)
Most of us believe our lower emotions are doing us a favor. Guilt keeps us "good." Anger keeps us "safe" from getting hurt again. Fear keeps us "prepared" for whatever's coming. In this episode, Matt breaks down why that belief is the exact thing keeping you stuck, and why the emotion you're using to protect yourself is the very suffering you're trying to avoid.

Is Your OCD Diagnosis Helping or Hurting You?
In this episode, Matt shares his own story of first hearing the word "OCD" and traces the line between a label that opens up new possibility and a label that turns into a trap. He explains why fixing the "theme" your fear latches onto was never the real work, and what it actually means to move beyond diagnosis into a deeper level of healing.
